Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover V from V-contg. hot iron with simple equipment while saving consumption of heat by adding an alkali metal cpd. to the hot iron; oxidation-refining the cpd.-added rion; dissolving slag with a V cpd. shifted in water; and separating the resulting V-contg. soln.
CONSTITUTION: An alkali metal cpd. such as Na2CO3 is added to V-contg. hot iron, and O2 is blown into the cpd.-added iron from the top or bottom to oxidation-refine the iron, e.g. at 1250W1500°C. By the refining the V in the iron is converted into V2O5, which is further converted into sodium vanadate by reaction with Na2CO3 and shifted into slag. This slag is separated from the iron and dipped in water. By separating the residue a V-contg. aq. soln. is obtd. The V is then precipitation-recovered from the soln. by a conventional method such as a red cake method. By oxidation-refining V-contg. hot iron with a Na2CO3 type cpd., Si, P and S in the iron can also be removed.
