Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the burnout of lining refractories of the converter by adding the MgO-contained slag forming agent so as to form 2MgO.SiO2 to a small amount of SiO2 formed in the converter at the time of producing steel by beforehand desiliconizing, desulfurizing and dephosphorizing raw material molten steel for steel making then decarbonization-refining the same in the converter.
CONSTITUTION: Molten iron as raw material for steel making is put in a reaction vessel of hermetic type groove shape and is oxidation-treated with alkali metal compounds such as Na2CO3 as flux, whereby its Si, P and S are beforehand removed and refinined. In this case, Si is removed down to about 0.20%. Next, this molten iron is separated from the molten slag and is put in a converter, where it is decarbonized by oxygen blowing and is refined to steel. At this time, the SiO2 amount formed through oxidation of about 0.20% of residual Si is calculated and the flux containing 80% or more of MgO such as magnesia clinker, magnesia brick scrap, etc. is added at such an amount at which 2MgO.SiO2 forms. The SiO2 forms the above-mentioned slag, thus it does not burnout the MgO-base refractory lining material of the converter.
