Abstract
PURPOSE: The title master pellets having both the toughness of nylon and the rigidity of glass fibers, prepared by bonding glass fiber bundles with a solvent-soluble polyamide resin, and by finely cutting the bundles to almost the same size.
CONSTITUTION: 60W95wt% of glass fiber bundles are immersed in a 20wt% solution of a polyamide resin obtained by polymerizing a monomer, e.g. nylon 6, 66 or a comonomer. After removing the excess solution, the bundles are bonded in the form of a rod, and finely cut by a cutter to give granular master pellets having almost the same size and an apparent specific gravity of 0.5W15. Preferably, the polyamide resin has a softening point of 180°C or below, an apparent viscosity of 0.5W50 poises, more preferably 3W10 poises, at normal temperature.
EFFECT: Firm bonding of glass fibers to resins, and little abrasion of molding devices.
