Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise surface pressure and increase tractive force, by forming many circumferential grooves on either one or more of an inner wheel, outer wheel or rolling surface of a rolling element.
CONSTITUTION: One end of an input shaft 1 is expanded to form an inner wheel 2, while a holder 4 is solidly formed on one end of an output shaft 3. A rolling element 6 is held swivel by pins 5 inserted in the holder 4. Several circumferential grooves 10 are formed on rolling surfaces 8, 9 of inner and outer wheels 2, 7 respectively. These grooves 10 reduce the effective contact length of rolling surfaces 8, 9 to produce sufficient surface pressure per unit area. Since this eliminates excessive normal force as required conventionally and produces adequate lubricating film between the rolling surfaces 8, 9 and inner and outer wheels 2, 7 respectively, hydroplaning is completely eliminated.
