Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the separation of metallic silicon and copper and the production of massive pieces from the powder of the copper, by using a mixed powder containing the metallic silicon and the copper as main constituents as the silicon and the copper remain unprocessed or the powder of the copper is coated with an aqueous solution of sodium silicate or with colloidal silica.
CONSTITUTION: Metallic silicon powder and copper powder, which have a grain size of about 50W200 mesh, and a small quantity of magnesium or the like are mixed with one another. The copper powder may be coated with an aqueous solution of sodium silicate or with colloidal silica. The dry content of the sodium silicate or the colloidal silica in a catalyst is 2% or more, preferably 3W10% of the total weight of the catalyst.
