Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An oligomer consisting of di(dihydrodicyclopentadienyl)maleate and/or di(dihydrodicyclopentadienyl)fumarate, having a number average molecular weight of 500W2,000, a softening point of 50W180°C and an iodine value of 75W 134, and soluble in aromatic hydrocarbon solvents, ketone solvents and ester solvents.
USE: It has excellent compatibility with polymeric materials and high solubility in various organic solvents, and is useful as an additive for rubbers, coatings, printing inks, pressure-sensitive adhesives, adhesives, etc.
PROCESS: Di(dihydrodicyclopentadienyl)maleate and/or di(dihydrodicyclopentadienyl)fumarate are reacted at 220W300°C, preferably at 230W280°C for 0.5W20hr in the absence of a catalyst, if desired in a solvent, e.g. toluene, etc., to give the oligomer.
