Abstract

PURPOSE: To effect a high ratio of silicic acid removal by contacting silicic acid- including water with basic anionic adsorbent material in the presence of hydrolytic metallic ions.
CONSTITUTION: Water including silicic acid is contacted with granule type ion- exchange member contg. adsorbed basic anions in the presence of hydrolytic metallic ions (particulary Al ion and Fe ion). To accelerate the adsorption of silicic acid, the addition of org. oxy acid or an auxiliary agent such as coagulant may be used. The process is effectively utilized as pretreatment for desalting process using ion- exchange resin as well as for separation and removal of molecule and salt in the process using membranes.
