Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a container of high mechanical properties and heat resistance in a short time, by repeatedly heating and cooling a polyethylene terephthalate sheet or film of low crystallinity to raise the crystallinity and hotpressing the sheet or film to instantaneously increase its crystallinity.
CONSTITUTION: A polyethylene terephthalate sheet or film with a crystallinity of 5% or less is heated at 140W250°C for 10W50 sec. The sheet or film is then cooled at 50W70°C for 5W10 sec. Such heating and cooling are repeated once or twice to soften the sheet or film and raise its crystallinity to 7W15%. The sheet or film is thereafter fitted on a mold heated at 180W280°C. The sheet or film is hotpressed and then treated with heat for about 20W40 sec., thereby instantaneously raising its crystallinity to 35W40%.
