Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect this device in response to abnormal conditions, by comparing the absolute value of currents at the AC side and the DC side of converters, and by tripping breakers at the AC side and the DC side when the AC side is larger and only the breaker at the DC side when the DC side is larger.
CONSTITUTION: When the AC of thyristor converters 2, 3 are short-circuited, interrupting instruction signals 11a-1, 11a-2 are put out from a differential current detector 11A when (current signals 9a at the AC side) become larger than (current signals 10a at the DC side) due to the increase of the current signals 9a at the AC side, and both an AC breaker 9 and a DC breaker 10 are interrupted. When DC are short-circuited, the interrupting instruction signals 11a-2 are put out from the differential current detector 11A when the current signals 10a at the DC side become larger than the current signals 9a at the AC side due to the augmentation of the current signals 10a at the DC side, and only the DC breaker 10 is interrupted.
