Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate white turbid phenomenon and make possible the displaying of high contrast by disposing the liquid crystal molecules near substrates with the inclination of their orientation at the angle of the specific range with respect to the substrates.
CONSTITUTION: When SiO, MgF2 or the like is evaporated from the direction 14 of an angle 15 from the normal 13 of the substrate of the device using WT type GH effect, the pretilt θ0 of liquid crystal molecules 10 may be selected within the range of 10W50°. When the vapor deposition from the 14 direction and the vapor deposition from the opposite direction 30 are accomplished alternately, it may be selected freely up to 10W80°. The oblique disposition of the liquid crystal molecules 10 improves the saturation characteristics of light transmittance, makes possible low voltage driving and provides the device of superior contrast.
