Abstract
PURPOSE: To permit the performance of cleaning treatment without interfering with the subsequent use even if there is a temporary downtime by forming the three beds by attaching activated sludge to beds having both a high water permeability and a high water holdability.
CONSTITUTION: Prior to the use of a waste water treatment apparatus, a microorganism membrane of activated sludge, etc., is beforehand attached to the fibrous substance 15 of the filter bed container 12 by the usual method, and then waste water from a waste water supply conduit is sprayed over the microorganism membrane-attached active filter bed having a spongy or fibrous filter bed structure consisting of the coarse portion 15B of a high water permeability and the dense portion 15A of a high water holdability. The sprayed waste water goes down mainly through the coarse portion 15B, during which the waste water contacts with the microorganism membrane adhered three-dimensionally to the pores in the fibrous substance 15 to enable organic components present in waste water to be digested by microorganisms. Then, the water present in the filter bed is drawn out at the time of repairing and inspection without drying the microorganism membrane in the dense portion 15A of a high water holdability, and thus the filter bed can be again used as an active filter bed without trouble by filling the filter bed with water.
