Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve a processing capability concerning instruction prefetch with addition of a small amount of hardware by making it possible to designate the branch true side or the branch false side, where an instruction following a conditional branch instruction is prefetched, in a machine language instruction level.
CONSTITUTION: The branch true side and the branch false side where an instruction following a conditional branch instruction shold be prefetched can be designated in a machine language instruction level. That is, when machine instruction word 16 is stored in instruction register 31 in instruction decoder 2, the code of the OP code part is sent to decoder circuit 32; and in case of a conditional branch instruction, instruction information 18 is sent to AND gates 35 and 36 of branch instruction control circuit 6. At this time, conditional branch instruction prefetch direction designation bit 34 of the operand part of the instruction word has a meaning, and the TRUE output and the COMP output are sent to gates 36 and 35 through gate 33 of circuit 6 as direction designation signal 19 respectively, and starting signal 10 or 11 outputted by "0" or "1" of bit 34.
