Abstract
PURPOSE: To sterilize the device for the thermal sterilization of liquid, as a whole, by furnishing a by-pass to the low-temperature side of a plate-type heat exchanger, and heating the whole device with a high-temperature sterilization unit while filling the low-temperature side path with a liquid.
CONSTITUTION: Plate-type heat exchangers 2, 6 are furnished with by-passes 10, 11, directional control valves A, A' or B, B', at the low-temperature side. In the sterilization of the device, the sterilizing liquid is heated in the heaters 3, 7, and circulated through the by-passes 10, 11 and piping 12, 14. Since the low-temperature side of the plate-type heat exchanger is filled with liquid to balance the pressure of the high-temperature side, the heat loss of the circulating liquid is reduced, and the sterilization efficiency is improved. In the opertion of the sterilization device, the by-passes are closed, and the liquid to be sterilized is heated by the low-temperature side of the heat exchanger and the heaters 3, 7, and cooled by the high-temperature side of the heat exchanger, and coolers 8 and 9. The sterilization liquid may be fresh water.
