Abstract
PURPOSE: To cheaply obtain an alloy for a compensating lead wire suitable for a thermocouple used in combination with iron by adding Ni, Mn, Co, etc. to Cu.
CONSTITUTION: The alloy consists of, by wt., Ni 15W29%, Mn 0.05W3%, Co 0.5W7%, inevitable impurities ≤1% and the balance Cu. This alloy is cheap and has high workability and thermoelectric characteristics well corresponding to the thermoelectromotive force of a CA thermocouple within a practical temp. range as a compensating lead wire for the thermocouple used in combination with iron. The Co added is effective in improvement of the electromotive force of the alloy esp. at high temps., and it is added in an amt. of about 3% or more, pref. 3W7%. Inevitable impurities >1% are undesirable in electromotive force and workability.
