Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an olefin polymer having a wide molecular weight distribution and improved moldability, free from adhesion to polymerizer walls, by polymerizing an α-olefin in the presence of a solid product comprising a transition metal atom, prepared through a specific reaction, and an organoaluminum compound.
CONSTITUTION: An α-olefin is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising (C) a product of reaction between (B) a solid product, prepared by reacting (A) a solid substance with a transition metal compound of Group IVa or Va in the presence of a polysiloxane, and a transition metal compound of Group IVa or Va having or free from a halogen atom, and (D) an organo aluminum compound. The solid substance (A) is obtained by reacting a trivalent metal halide with a bivalent metal hydroxide, oxide, carbonate, their double salt, or a hydrate of a bivalent metal compound.
