Abstract
PURPOSE:To execute the edging pass at a large draft percentage, by empoying a couple of specially shaped anvils, and also, by using the pusher plate and the horizontal roll for reducing the upper and lower portions together with above anvils. CONSTITUTION:When the breadth of the slab is to be greatly reduced by the hot rolling pass, the side press machine consisting of well-known couple of anvils are employed. Hereupon, the employed couple of anvils 5 is provided with the taper groove which makes the sectional shape of the slab 6' after the edging pass to be a flat octagonal section that is provided with the chamfering grade as follows; the chamfering margin (t) at four corner edges of the original rectangular section is 0.05-0.45 times of the original thickness T0 of the slab, and the chamfering breadth W is 0.05-0.25 times of the original breadth of the slab. The edging pass is executed while continuing the adjustment for obtaining the necessary breadth of the slab; hereupon, the edging pass is executed while restraining the slab by the bucking preventive pusher plate 7 for the upper portion, and by the horizontal roll 8 for the lower portion, in the same vertical plane as the couple of anvils 5. According to this method, the edging pass can be executed at a large draft percentage, and also, the increase of breadth at the next horizontal roll is prevented, so that the product of various breadth can be rolled from the slab of single breadth size.
