Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction of a long-chained hydroxycarboxylic acid with 2-chloro- 6-methyl-1, 3-diphenylpyridinium borofluoride gives title compound in one step and high yield with no use of harmful substance, said compound is useful as an intermediate of perfume and drug.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction between a long-chained hydroxycarboxylic acid of the formula: HO-X-COOH (X is a long-chained compound of 8 or more carbon atoms which may be substituted with alkyl, aralkyl or cyclic substituent and may contain unsaturated bond, carbonyl, halogen, etc.) and 2-chloro-6-methyl-1, 3- diphenylpyridinium borofluoride of formula I is conducted in an inert solvent to give title compound of formula II. The presence of a tertiary amine and tetraalkylammonium chloride acclerates the reaction and the reaction temperature is room one W80°C.
USE: Said compound has the base skelton of macrolides that is used as remedy for staphylomycosis and streptomycosis.
