Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title composition having a specific heterogeneously-layered structure and capable of affording printed paper of excellent printability, by adding, to an aqueous dispersion of a specific copolymer prepared by emulsion polymerization, another monomer to carry out emulsion polymerization.
CONSTITUTION: An emulsion copolymerization is carried out between (a) several monomers selected from a styrene-based monomer, vinyl cliloride, vinyl acetate, etc. to prepare a copolymer latex having a second-order transition temperature ≥60°C, when the polymerization rate has exceeded 90%, (b) another monomer is added to the system to continue the emulsion polymerization to form a (b)-polymer superposed on the already prepared copolymer in a weight ratio (a):(b) of 3:7W7: 3, thus giving a copolymer latex having a heterogeneously-layered structure, a film- forming temperature ≤25°C, and an average particle size of 0.1W1μ. When put to practical use, about 7W30 parts by wt.% the coating liquid base consisting of said copolymer latex is incorporated in the coating liquid containing 100parts by wt.% a mineral pigment.
