Abstract

PURPOSE: To get a water jet propulsion device compact in size and light in weight, by fitting an engine above an impeller which is driven by the engine so that its crankshaft is nearly vertical.
CONSTITUTION: An engine 23 is placed above an impeller 13, with its crankshaft 24 being nearly vertical. As the impeller 13 is driven by the engine 23, water from a suction port 15 of a case 14 is continuously taken in and injected, being accelerated by the impeller 13, rearward through an injection port 16. A boat is advanced by the reaction force of the injection water. When the injection port 16 is closed by turning a baffle plate 22, water is injected through a notch 21 of a nozzle 17 toward the stem and accordingly the boat is moved astern.
