Abstract
PURPOSE:To simplify the structure of an electric glass melting furnace and to reduce the size thereof by connecting a melting section provided with electrodes and a purification work section provided with electrically heating elements through a throat and a riser set separately with a partition wall in-between and by heating the sections with the elements at the time of starting to make heavy oil or the like unnecessary. CONSTITUTION:Upper brick 15 of partition wall 14 betwen melting section 5 provided with electrodes 1 and purification work section 8 provided with electrically heating elements 2 is taken out, temporary refractory lid 16 is put on raw material charge inlet 3, and a current is supplied to elements 2 to uniformly heat sections 5, 8. When cullet and glass raw materials previously charged into section 5 are heated to about 800 deg.C, direct current supply is enabled, and they are melted with Joule heat generated from electric power between electrodes 1, 1. Next brick 15 is returned to the original position to partition sections 5, 8, and lid 16 is simultaneously removed to charge glass raw materials into section 5. Dust of the materials is prevented from penetrating into section 8 by wall 14 and brick 15, and elements 2 are protected from damage due to dust.
