Abstract
PURPOSE: The title fibers usable for sanitary purpose in hospitals or others, having improved and durable antifungal and fungistatic effects, obtained by incorporating specific amounts of zinc oxide or a copper compound slightly soluble in water.
CONSTITUTION: Thermoplastic fibers having a fineness per fiber of 0.5W20 de., comprising 1W30wt% of zinc oxide and 99W70wt% of a thermoplastic polymer. The fibers have improved antifungal and fungistatic properties, and can be obtained without deteriorating the fiber-forming properties and mechanical properties of fibers. Addition of 0.01W5wt% of an organic antifungal agent slightly soluble in water further improves the effects described above effectively.
