Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove nitrogen in waste water by vertically dividing a treating vessel into two stages with an isolating plate having gaps at both edges and by setting rotary disks with aerobic and anaerobic bacteria propagated, respectively in the stages.
CONSTITUTION: The no. of rotations of rotary disk 18 in upper stage 12a of treating vessel 10 and that of rotary disk 24 in lower stage 12b are regulated, or the rotating directions of disks 18, 24 are changed. The openings of partition plates 16a, 16b for gaps 14a, 14b of isolating plate 13 may be regulated. Thus, the dissolved oxygen content of waste water in stage 12a is adjusted to a concn. suitable for BOD removal and nitrification actions of aerobic bacteria propagated on disk 18. At the same time, the dissolved oxygen content of waste water in stage 12b is adjusted to a concn. suitable for denitrification action of anaerobic bacteria propagated on disk 24.
