Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the molding of high grade through simplified process by preliminarily compression molding the steel powder containing the limited amount of carbon then recompressing the same to high density while hot thence subjecting the same to heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Powder of the alloy steel which is composed primarily of iron and contains carbon at 0.4W1.5% is preliminarily compression molded by a press or the like. This is heated to above austenitizing temperature in a protecting atmosphere and is then subjected to hot forging by a press or the like, whereby it is compacted to true density above 95%. Next, it is immediately subjected to quenching and hardening to be tempered or hardened, after which it is subjected to treatment such as nitriding, high frequency hardening, etc. Thereby, the high density powder molding of sufficient strength and superior mechanical characteristics such as abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance and others is produced.
