Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain pellets which are nonadhesive to each other and have desired size by pelletizing dust by keeping the grain size distribution of raw material constant by the addition of other compounding raw material in the manufacture of baked pellets for iron making from collected dust generated in steel making factory as an iron source.
CONSTITUTION: An iron source, e.g., collected dust, sludge, scale, etc., generated in iron works is mixed with sand iron, powdered ore, etc., as grain size and moisture regulation materials, together with Portland cement or Portland cement clinker powder as a binder and water enough to make the moisture content approx. 8% or less, to obtain a mixture of a grain size, i.e., 74 microns of particles are more than 40%, and then the mixture is granulated by a rotary granulator, etc. This method obviates the need for pretreatment process, e.g., pregrinding, etc., and also can manufacture pellets which are nonadhesive to each other because of the coarse powders adhered to the periphery of pellets.
