Abstract
PURPOSE: After a primery coating of specific composition is applied to the surface of plastic moldings and crosslinked by ultraviolet ray irradiation, thin films of metal is formed thereon, thus producing moldings with good metal luster that can be used as parts of electric appliances and cars.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of plastic moldings is coated with a primer that consists of (A) a monomer mix containing (a) 30W98wt% of at least one selected from mono- or polypentaerythritol polyacrylate or methacrylate of the formula (three or more of X11WXn2, Xn3, X14 are groups of the formula: CH2=CR-COO- and the rest are -OH; n is 1W5; R is H, methyl) and 70W2wt% of a monomer bearing 2 or less acryloyl or methacryloyl groups in the molecule and (B) 1W20wt% of a photosensitizer. The film is crosslinked by irradiating with ultraviolet rays and then metal thin film is formed.
