Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain permanent magnet alloy having various superior properties having aeolotropy by quenching, tempering polycrytal alloy containing 68W70wt% of Mn, (1/10Mn-6.6)W(1/3Mn-22.2)wt% of C and residue of aluminum and plastically working at predetermined temperature range.
CONSTITUTION: Mn-Al-C alloy having 68W70% of Mn, solid solution limit of (1/10Mn-6.6)W(1/3Mn-22.2) of C and the residue of aluminum is quenched at cooling speed of 10°C/min. in the range of 830W900°C., and tempered at 480W750°C for suitable time. Then, quasi-stable γ phase presented in the intermediate of high temperature phase, room temperature phase and β-Mn phase is extremely stable. Even if it is plastically worked at 600W700°C, it does not transform to β phase to thereby provide a permanent magnet having aeolotropy and higher than 6×106G.Oe of magnetic nature. This magnet has remarkably high mechanical strength and toughness. Even after it is magnetized, it can be readily cut and have superior temperature and weather resistant characteristics.
