Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove chlorine present in waste gas without the use of inorganic reducing agents by the procedure in which waste gas is washed with a sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution, mixed with sulfurous acid gas, and then washed with an alkaline solution.
CONSTITUTION: Offensively odorous gas is treated with a sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution to remove malodorous substances, then mixed with sulfurous acid gas more than the molarity of chlorine present in waste gas, and lastly introduced into an alkali-washing tower of an aqueous alkaline solution of ph 7.1 or more to remove chlorine present in waste gas and at the same time to deodorize it.
