EXAMPLE: 4-Cyanophenyl 4-(n-hexyl)-cyclohexanecarboxylate.
USE: Materials for liquid crystal compositions in a stable liquid crystal state having positive dielectric anisotropy.
PROCESS: An 4-(m-alkyl)-cyclohexanecarboxylic acid is reacted with thionyl chloride to form an acid chloride, which is reacted with a p-cyanophenol in the presence of triethylamine in an organic solvent, e.g. ethyl ether or chloroform.
