Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the spark plug from smoldering, in such manner with a first high voltage applied to the spark plug and a second high voltage applied to the spark plug immediately before combustion stroke further with application of the first high voltage ceased according to a status of the engine. CONSTITUTION:With a carbon sticking to the insulator leg part of a spark plug 20, when caused a leak of high voltage, an engine sensor 70 turns a switch 60 on. This causes a first high voltage generator 30 to apply a first high voltage of about 2KV through a distrubutor 50 to the spark plug 20 of each cylinder at the time of suction stroke, with a carbon, stuck to the insulator leg part, converted into carbon dioxide (CO2) and removed. Accordingly, an insulation resistance of the spark plug 20 is promptly restored to become a high resistance near infinity, and a second high voltage, fed from a second high voltage generator 40, causes a discharge in spark gap between a center electrode 21 and earth electrode 22 of the spark plug 20.
