Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a sealing arrangement which can provide an effective grasping sealing condition between a longitudinally slidable member and a fixed member or the like and wherein such grasping condition can be suitably released when required.
CONSTITUTION: A movable or operating member 4 is slidably inserted in an inserting opening 12 formed in a fixed or support member 1. Mechanism for providing a sealing condition between both members 1 and 4 includes a hollow seal member 2 and axially divided seal members 3 which members 2, 3 are received in an annular receiving groove 11 formed in the support member 1 concentrically with the inserting opening 12 therein. The seal member 2 has a pressure liquid feed pipe 5 connected on the rear side thereof and also has curved sections 22 in the form of bellows formed on opposite sides thereof so as to allow the divided seal members 3 to be forced outwardly by the hollow seal member 2. The hollow seal member 2 has longitudinal engaging projections 21 formed on the contact surface thereof with the divided seal members 3 while each divided seal member 3 has a recess 15 formed thereon for receiving therein one of such engaging projections 21.
