Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a porous sintered body which is excellent in gas permeability, corrosion resistance, strength, and ductility by the procedure in which a mixture of Al powder and Cu, Mg, Si, or a alloy of these metals is molded and then sintered at a temperature near the melting point of Al in non-oxidative atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: Al powder or an Al alloy powder is mixed with appropriate amounts of Cu, Mg, Si, or alloy of these metals and then filled in a graphite container for molding. The molding is then sintered at a temperature near the melting point of Al powder in the stmosphere of H2, whereupon the surface 4 of the Al particle 1 and the impurities, or Al alloy, of the grain boundary interface 5 appear in liquid phase and elute from the destroyed portion 3 of Al2O3 film. The eluted liquid phase Al alloy makes an alloy with the Cu powder 6 and the liquid phase 7 diffuses among the adjacent Al powders and sinters with the Cu powder 6 combining with the alloy portion 8. Thus, a porous sintered body which is suitable for filter, sound insulating material, etc., can be obtained.
