Abstract
PURPOSE: To surely and easily connect tapes to each other without stopping feeding them, by providing a detour part or reserved part in one tape fed from a reel and by controlling the detour part or reserved part with a powder clutch.
CONSTITUTION: When the tapes are not connected to each other, the powder clutch 32 is operated to cause strong tension to move a slider 31 back to a position to maximize the length of the detour part 36 of the tape. The slider 31 stays in said position because the feed velocity of the tape 34 is equal to the speed of its outgoing from a connection device 1. When the tape 34 is going to be all unwound, the powder clutch 32 is shifted synchronously with the actuation of a cylinder 25 to cause weak tension. The slider 31 moves forth depending on the speed of the tape outgoing from the connection device 1 and the length of the detour part 36 starts decreasing. A cylinder 19 also moves forth to cause the other tape 35 to approach the former 34. A heater 16 is moved to the tapes fuse-couple them to each other while the tapes are nipped.
