Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Diphenyl ether derivative of formula (X is halogen; R1 and R2 are lower alkyl; Y is O or ethylenedioxy).
EXAMPLE: 2-Chloro-4-trifluoromethyl-2',4'-dichloro-5'-acetonyloxydiphenyl ether.
USE: Herbicide effective to highly harmful weeds in paddy fields, i.e. tainubie, umbrella plant, bulrush, etc., and almost harmless to paddy-rice plant. In addition, it has long-acting effectivity to large crab-grass, green foxtail, cockspur-grass, etc. in plowed field, and no phytotoxicity to soybeans, wheat, etc. even by the high concentration application.
PROCESS: In an example, the above-exemplified compound is prepared by the reaction of 2-chloro-4-trifluoromethyl-2',4'-dichloro-5'-hydroxydiphenyl ether with chloroacetone.
