Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce the title glass for a milk white coating, which can be baked at a low temp., by melting glass having a compsn. most of which except water consists of specified metal oxides after which the melt is quenched by being contacted to spouted water.
CONSTITUTION: Glass is melted having a compsn. above 99 wt% of which except water consists of, by wt., SiO2 4.5W34.0%, B2O3 13.5W40.0%, Al2O3 17.0W 42.0%, RIIO+R2IO 15.0W40.0%, SnO2+TiO2+ZrO2 15.0W25.0%, SnO2 0W 15.5%, TiO2 0W23.0% and ZrO2 0W20.5%. The melt is quenched by being contacted to spouted water. By this contact the glass is dispersed and finely divided, and the resulting glass particles are uniformly quenched and made transparent. The glass particles are then finely pulverized, slurried, coated, and calcined at about 600°C to obtain a milk white coating. In the above formulae RII is one or more out of Mg, Ca, Ba, Sr, and Zn, and RI is one or more out of Li, Na and K.
