Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a high-purity nitrile economically in a simple process, by reacting an alkyl substituted aromatic compound with NH3 and D2 in the presence of a catalyst comprising one or more types of oxides of U, Ba, and Ge, and V and Cr oxides.
CONSTITUTION: An alkyl substituted aromatic compound is reacted with NH3 and O2 in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) one or more types of oxides of (a) V, (b) Cr, and (c) U, Ba, Ge, Hf, Re, and Th, at 180W600°C, preferably 200W 450°C, to give the title compound, e.g. isonicotinic acid nitrile in a 92.6% yield from r-picoline. Preferably, the atomic ratios of V/Cr and V/U and Ba are 1:0.8W1.2 and 1:0.02W0.5, respectively.
