Abstract
PURPOSE:To lengthen the life of battery by making it resistible against strong pressure by a procedure in which electrode plate groups are inserted into an electrolytic cell in which vertical cell wall is provided to the electrode plate and an expansible plait is provided to the bottom portion, and then a pressure is applied on the electrode plate groups from the outside of the cell. CONSTITUTION:The electrode plate groups 4 obtained by orderly laminating paste type positive plates and negative plates through spacers and glass mats are inserted into the electrolytic cell 1 made of a synthetic resin, having vertical cell walls on the plates and the expansible plain 2 on the bottom wall. Then, a pressure of 40- 120kg/dm<2> is applied on the electrode plate groups from the outside of the cell 1 to obtain a lead acid battery. Thus, a long life storage battery in which softening and falling of positive electrode active material take place to a lesser extent can be easily obtained.
