Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the low-loss and high-density selective coupler by reverse- coupling between optical guides by plural periodic structures and coupling the wavelength rays corresponding to the periodic structures. CONSTITUTION:An optical guide LO and multiple guides L1, L2... are reverse- coupled by way of frequency structures F1, F2... of respectively different periods and the rays of wavelengths lambda1, lambda2... corresponding to the structures F1, F2... are propagated from the guide LO to the guides L1, L2... or the rays of the wavelengths lambda1, lambda2... from the guides L1, L2... to the guide LO, whereby the light wavelengths are selectively coupled. This simple constitution enables the achievement of higher density of the device and the use of the periodic structures reduces the losses at the respective coupling parts.
