Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease the degree of corrosion of metallic material, by arranging plural electrodes face to face through a metallic material, by installing a rectifier between both electrodes so as to supply electric power to the electrodes by a AC power source.
CONSTITUTION: For example, the cooling water chamber 11 (corresponds to a metallic material) of a water-cooled transformer is made of cast iron. In the water chamber 11 is arranged three-in-a-group zinc electrodes 12a, 12b. The zinc electrodes 12a, 12b are connected respectively to different terminals 14a, 14b of a high frequency power source 14. The water chamber 11 is connected to the terminals 14a, 14b of the high frequency power source 14 through a rectifier 15. The output frequency of the high frequency power source 14 is 5kHz, and the cooling tubes are made of copper, and the tube sheets are made of naval brass. when the cooling tubes, the tube sheets, and the water chamber are energized at 100mA/m2, and the protective potential is maintained at -1.0101 volts, the degree of corrosion of the cast iron of the water chamber near the tube sheets is decreased to 20mg/dm2/day, or one twentieth of that by conventional methods.
