NEW MATERIAL:7-[ 2-(2-Amino-4-thiazolyl)-2-methoxyiminoacetamido ]-3-methyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid pivaloyloxymethyl ester (syn isomer) or formula I and its salt.
USE: Antibacterial agent which can be easily absorbed through the digestive tracts and is orally administrable. The 4-position ester of the compound is released rapidly in the living body, and the compound is converted into the carboxylic acid-type compound having wide antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I can be prepared, for example, by reacting the compound of formula II or its acid addition salt with the carboxylic acid of formula III (R is NH2 or protected NH2) or its acid addition salt, and if necessary, eliminating the protecting group. The reaction is carried out in a solvent such as acetone, if necessary, in the presence of a base.
