Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect even thin character part, by detecting the dark characters with increased threshold value for binary at first, and binarizing only near the dark character part obtained with lower threshold value.
CONSTITUTION: The multi-value pattern of read-in characters is stored in the memory unit M1 and fed to the comparator 26 with sequential readout, binarized into 0 or 1 at the specified threshold value and written in the memory unit M2. Next, the binary pattern from the memory unit M2 is sequentially read out, and when 1 corresponding to the black video element is read out, the address and each address surrounding it are designated and written in the memory unit M3 by taking each content as 1 to obtain the vicinity pattern to the binary pattern. The readout output of the memory unit M3 is fed to the AND circuit 27 as the area decision gate signal and the signal in the vicinity pattern when the threshold value in decreased is written in the memory unit M2.
