Abstract

PURPOSE: The water absorptive material which comprises containing starch, etc., water-soluble monomers, cationic monomers, sulfonic acid, etc. and monomers having sulfonic acid, etc. and addition-polymerizable double bonds in combination and which has high water-absorptive and liquid-absorptive characteristic even in the presence of salt.
CONSTITUTION: This is the material obtainable by polymerizing (A) one or more kinds selected from starch, cellulose, guagum or their derivatives, (B) one or more kinds selected from cationic polymers having addition-polymerizable double bonds, (C) one or more kinds selected from cationic polymers having addition-polymerizable double bonds and (D) one or more kinds of monomers selected from monomers having sulfonic acid groups, sulfate groups, phosphoric acid groups or phosphate groups and addition-polymerizable double bonds in combination by the use of, if necessary, (E) crosslinking agents, wherein the (C) monomers and (D) monomers existing in the foregoing material are so arranged as to become 2 to 30% respectively and the weight ratios of the (C) monomers/(D) monomers 1/3 to 3.
