Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the detecting capability and reliability of a rotary detector by employing a pair of magnets having the same number of magnetic poles and arranged in an opposed and spaced relationship such that each pair of opposed magnetic poles on the magnets have opposite polarities, and a magnetism sensitive element disposed in a space between the magnets.
CONSTITUTION: A rotary body 7 fixedly mounted on a rotary shaft 6 has circular flange portions 7a, 7b. Ring type magnets 8, 9 of the same dimensions having the same number of magnetic poles are bonded to the flange portions 7a, 7b of the rotary body 7 such that each pair of opposed magnetic poles on the magnets 8, 9 have opposite polarities. A Hall IC10 is fixedly provided in an intermediate portion of a space between the magnets 8, 9. In the above structure, a line of magnetic force between two magnets 8, 9 which have a large opposed surface area is far greater than a line of magnetic force between adjacent magnetic poles on the same magnet. Moreover, a Hall element or a Hall IC reacts strongly a magnetic flux passing in the direction of the surface thereof. This is to the advantage of the sensitivity of this detector. This detector permits improving the reliability of its rotary detecting operation to a great extent even when the distance between the magnets and the magnetism sensitive element is great.
