Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a developing unit to assuredly withdraw from an image carrier, by restricting the effect of moment due to drive force or the like to minimum in the magnetic brush developing unit or the like of an electrophotographic copier.
CONSTITUTION: Developing unit 1 is swingably mounted on shaft 8 of the main body of copier and developing roller 3 of unit 1 is rotated by drive of drvive gear 7 supported by the main body of copier through driven gear 6 fixed to unit 1. The positions of both gears and shaft 8 are arranged so as to direct direction PB of the power transmission from gear 7 to gear 6 almost toward shaft 8. As a result, the moment with respect to shaft 8 due to the drive force of gear 7 almost becomes zero, and unit 1 can be surely withdrawn from photosensitive drum 10 (image carrier) without being adversely affected by exterior drive force and providing an interior drive force source in its unit, when it is necessary to withdraw unit 1 from drum 10 in order to avoid developer blocking occurring between roller 3 and drum 10 in order to avoid developer blocking occuring between roller 3 and drum 10 in developing.
