Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the deposition of sludge during the storage of petroleum, by adding a specific fatty acid diethanolamide or its ethylene oxide adduct to petroleum.
CONSTITUTION: The deposition of petroleum sludge during the storage is prevented by the adding of 5W500ppm of a fatty acid diethanolamide or its ethylene oxide adduct, represented by the formula (where R is a 3W21C aliphatic hydrocarbon, m≥0, n≥0, and m+n=0W100). The fatty acid diethanolamide or its ethylene oxide adduct used includes butyric acid, valeric acid, caproic acid, capric acid, caprylic acid, lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, cocount oil fatty acid, beef tallow fatty acid, a fatty acid diethanolamide from these fatty acids and diethanolamine, or an adduct of said amide with ethylene oxide, containing approx. 1W100mol ethylene oxide.
