Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a material described in the title which has excellent toughness equal to that of WC base superhard alloy and has simultaneously excellent wear resistance, by addn. of high melting compound contg. principally cubic tantalum nitride to a cubic boron nitride base sintered material.
CONSTITUTION: A sintered alloy comprising 20W70% by volume cubic BN; 30W 80% by volume of high melting compound contg. principally cubic TaN; 0.2W5.0% by volume of sintering auxiliary metal contg. principally Al.
USE: The material is used for making cutting tools which are used for general cutting and finish cutting of high hardness steel.
