Abstract

PURPOSE: To automatically identify the state of the road surface by measuring the road surface temperature and light reflecting level to identify the road surface state which is not identified by the microwave reflecting level.
CONSTITUTION: Microwave regularly reflected on the road surface 1a as transmitted from an microwave transmitter 5 is recieved by a microwave receiver 6, and transmitted via a cable 10 to a data processor 11. Light projected by a projector 7 and regularly reflected on the road surface 1a is detected by a photodetector 8, scattered light is detected by a photodetector 9, and the detection signals are applied to the data processor 11. Further, the road surface temperature is applied through the cable 10 to the data processor 11. The data processor processes these input signals to identify the state of the road surface 1a.
