Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a white hard amorphous material with superior luster for watch exterior parts by alloying Pd with P in a specified ratio.
CONSTITUTION: A molten alloy consisting of Pd 60W90 atomic% and P 10W40 atomic% is quenched at a cooling rate of about 103°C/sec to manufacture an amorphous plate material or wire rod. This material has high hardness and superior scratch and corrosion resistances as well as luster and color which cannot be given by crystalline metal. It is suitable for use as a material for the case, band, hold over clasp, handling button, crown, face, parting plate, hands, etc. of a wristwatch and the cases, etc. of a pocket watch and a ring watch.
