Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect whether there is magnetic toner without any influence of toner contamination in a toner container by providing a relatively- movable magnet at the non-magnetic material part of the container containing the magnetic toner. CONSTITUTION:On the container wall of toner container 1 made of a non-magnetic material of an Al plate, etc., permanent magnet 6 is supported by a non-magnetic material such as phosphor bronze and this magnet 6 is movable to the position through electromagnet 3. Then, lead switch 8 is put into operation by magnet 5. When container 1 contains a sufficient volume of toner 2, flowing a current through electromagnet 3 to repulse magnet 5 forces magnet 5 to come close to the wall of container 1 and even if the current supply to electromagnet 3 is cut off in this state, magnet 5 stays sticking to the wall of container 1 by the magnetic suction force of toner 2. At the time when toner 2 lessens, on the other hand, cutting off the current supply to electromagnet 3 allows magnet 5 to return the electromagnet 3 side by its weight because of no suction of toner 2 and at this time, magnet 5 put lead switch 8 into operation to detect the position of magnet 5.
