Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the decrease in coupling efficiency at the changing over of light by using the specified reflecting body having three reflecting surfaces as an optical path changing element. CONSTITUTION:The light collimated by passing through a lens 4 from an input fiber 1 enters a prism 8 which has total three reflecting surfaces of one reflecting surface and two reflecting surfaces which are equal in the angle that it assumes to the surface of one reflecting surface and is opposite in the inclination. In said prism, the light receives three reflections by total reflection and is thence condensed by a condensing lens 6 and is coupled to an output fiber 3. Next, when the prism 8 is moved parallel to the fiber end face, the light collimated by passing through the lens 4 from the fiber 1 enters the prism 8, where it receives three reflections by total reflection, is condensed by a condensing lens 5 and is coupled to an output fiber 2. Hence, by moving the prism 8, the light may be changed over from the fibers 1 to 3 and from the fibers 1 to 2.
