Abstract
PURPOSE: To specify the outside diameter of the connected part, make said part flexible and maintain the strength for a long time by unravelling the final twise part of a steel wire rope by the length to be connected to the steel single rope of a smaller diameter then inserting the steel single wire and coiling the unravelled strands at first twist again on the single wire.
CONSTITUTION: Strands 3, 4, 5 of a steel wire rope 2 is untwisted by the length required for coiling and the neighborhoods b of the respective ends are made to a suitable length. Next, a steel single wire 1 of a small diameter is inserted into this untwisted part and the unravelled strands 3, 4, 5 are coiled as first twist by taking clearances c to the steel single wire. Next, reinforcing strands (the strands of the steel rope 2 may be directly used) are twisted for 3 lengths into the clearances c. Undulations are provided to the front surface of the steel single wire and the inside surface of the steel wire rope to increase friction resistance. With this method, the outside diameter of the connected part is less than 2.5 times that of the strands and the connection strength equivalent to or higher than the lower value of the strength of the steel single wire or strands.
